Ever seen or known anyone who is so positive about life, so
enthusiastic about their goals and visions, so confident about themselves and really so full of life gradually going to
a state of depression, gradually having esteem issues, gradually losing touch
with life, gradually feeling like giving it all up, gradually feel suicide is
the best answer?
Little did many know that the number one cause of this, is the
opinions of people. This resulted in them trying to please everyone, trying to
yield to the opinions of others, giving in to the opinions of others and
letting it have power over them.
Michelle Mckinney Hammond in one of her books titled The Diva Principle (which we reviewed here ), said ‘’The most liberating truth you can ever accept is this- it is impossible to control the opinions of others’’. She also said something interesting in that book, she said ‘’the opinions of people are like the wind’’.

The wind as we all know does not really have a direction or a
target. This means that you constantly yielding to the opinions of others or
letting the opinions of others get to you, will only make you feel as though
you live on a roller coaster ride. But why
is that? This is because no matter what you do, people will always have
something to say about it.
When we yield to the opinions of people, you get tossed up
and down like a dice. This mainly is because, no matter how you choose to
listen to what everyone has to say, they will always see a fault in what you do
no matter how hard you try to do no wrong in their eyes.
What Wendy Williams did after a huge backlash on her Aliyah
movie blew my mind.
Her production company produced a movie about the life of
the late Singer Aliyah. Wendy Williams was so excited to showcase her work to
the world and was so confident that everyone will love it (well…I knew all this
because I happen to be a huge fan of hers).
When the movie eventually came out, this got the internet
buzzing. Many were not so happy with the movie they watched and seriously backlashed
Wendy. I patiently waited for what Wendy had to say the next day after the
movie aired on Lifetime.
Wendy the next day said ‘’I
see my Aliyah movie broke the internet this weekend. Everybody got an opinion.
Whether you loved it or hated it, you watched. It was the second highest rated
movie on all of cable, this year so far (2014). Not on Lifetime but all of
cable’’.
This only is to say that, the opinions of others will make
you question everything about yourself; your goals, your aspirations in life,
your dreams, your worth, you efforts…your being as a whole. It will make see yourself as not being good enough. This in turn will only make you lose your sleep, your
mind, your joy, your health and everything you stand for and believe in. And
when you finally lose it all, guess what will still happen? People will still
talk.
Therefore make up your mind to build a strong and thick wall
around yourself. This will make it extremely difficult for the opinions of people to
get to you or to destroy your inner peace and confidence.
ALWAYS BELIEVE IN YOURSELF. That idea you are so passionate
about that makes you light up with joy whenever you think about it but are so
scared to bring it to life because of what people will say, I say BIRTH THAT
IDEA! ALWAYS BE YOU AND NEVER EVER BE SORRY ABOUT IT.
FALL IN LOVE WITH
YOURSELF and always have this in mind: The opinions of people are like the
wind. Their opinions will always blow
towards my direction but, I AM A SOLID ROCK. I WILL NEVER ALLOW THE OPINIONS
OF PEOPLE DESTROY ME. EVERYONE WILL ALWAYS HAVE AN OPINION BUT THE OPINIONS I
HAVE ABOUT MYSELF IS WHAT MATTERS MOST.
Be Inspired
