The Mystery Behind Speaking In Tongues

#Inspiration

This was published in 2015

Before I start, I will love to say that this piece is quite a long one and I will need your indulgence to kindly read it to the end. I hope you get inspired by it because I tried my best to write this from my inside as I was inspired by the Holy Spirit to do so.

Speaking in tongues as we all know is a mystery in itself because we are basically speaking in a language we have no idea of what it means or what we are saying. The interesting part of it all is that, God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and all the heavenly bodies understands 100% of what we are saying while the devil understands 0% of what we are saying.

Most times, when we pray, we kind of pray the wrong prayers or say the right prayers at the wrong time. Then we keep saying that ''God is unfair. God doesn't want to answer our prayers. Does God even hear my prayers at all?'' He does hear but the reason why there are no answers yet is because we are praying the wrong prayers. We are praying way outside His will.
No wonder the bible says that ''ye ask , and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts (James 4:3)''.

This is where the Holy Spirit and His gift of speaking in tongues comes in. That is why, the bible says in Romans 8:26-27: 26) ''Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27) And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God''.

According to the verses above, it says, the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us. No wonder the Holy Spirit serves as our Guardian Angel. He always directs our path and ensures we are moving on the right path and scolds us with love when we do wrong.
Now remember the Holy Spirit makes intercession to God the Father with groaning which cannot be uttered? And God the Father and God the Son searches the mind and knows what to answer because the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us according to the will of God.

Now when we pray in tongues, we pray according to the will of God. Because the Holy Spirit is aligning our prayers with God's will.
We pray according to the direction of the Holy Spirit. We have no clue whatsoever of what we are saying but the Holy Spirit does. He is directing us to hit the nail on the head with our prayers. He is directing us on what to pray that will move God from His throne and act. He is helping us uncover secrets in a millions years to come would have been left uncovered. He is exposing the plans of the devil.

Remember the Holy Spirit stays within us ALWAYS, so He knows the things that we deeply need (remember not want). So when we speak in tongues, He is directly communicating those things to God through us according to God's will, leaving God with no choice than to answer.

Just like a story I heard about the late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya. The story goes like this, the late Pastor Bimbo Odukoya was in her kitchen about to cook for her family when her peace was withdrawn and something within her (which I believe must have been the Holy Spirit) told her to start speaking in tongues. She immediately started speaking in tongues for a while till her peace was restored.
Unknown to her that the time her peace was withdrawn, one of her daughters was about to be raped and around the time she started speaking in tongues, somehow a miracle happened and she escaped.

Now you see, how the Holy Spirit aligned her prayers to God's will at that time on what to pray for/on. The devil obviously didn't understand what she was saying that's how his work was destroyed. Because speaking in tongues is the only language the devil does not understand.

When we pray in our own tongue, we pour our hearts to God. He will of course hear and answer us. But many a times when  we pray in our own tongue, we pray outside God's will or we keep going in circle and not saying what He (God) wants to hear at that point in time.

However, when we speak in tongues, we are now speaking in the language of the heavens. You are speaking in the language of the Supernatural. God and all the heavenly bodies now have your attention because you are now speaking in their language. The Holy Spirit is now directing you on what to say and on what not to say in tongues aligning your every word to God's will hence speedily giving you the answers to your prayers.

Now that have been said, there are mainly 2 ways to be crowned with the gift of  the speaking in tongues by the Holy Spirit and they are:
1) You need to give your life to Jesus Christ.
Because no one can have access to the Holy Spirit without first having access to Jesus Christ and no one can have access to God the Father without having access to Jesus Christ.

2) Agree with the whole of your being that you want to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit and He will bless you with it.

The gift of  speaking in tongues is a special gift but it is also like every language you freely speak. The only difference is that, you are speaking in the language of the supernatural and you have no idea of what you are saying.
Just like you can freely speak in English, French, German, Igbo, Yoruba etc in public and not be ashamed, same goes to speaking in tongues.

Great mysteries lies in speaking in tongues. I hope that you have been inspired by the little I have uncovered through the Holy Spirit. Please do share with others by clicking on any of the social media share buttons by the left side of this post to inspire them too.

Be Inspired.

Yours Truly,

  1. Great write up, thanks for taking your time to write this as the spirit leads, still struggling to have the fruit of the Spirit but am sure God is going to release it unto me.

I once heard Satan has a way of manipulating our spirit man to speak a different tongue other than that of the Holy Spirit.. How true is this?

And Paul once said it is better to have or ask for the understanding of the speaking in tongues cuz sometimes God is trying to speak directly thru us either directly at us or someone near and if there is no spirit of interpretation then we don't get the msg. And is it every speaking in tongues that is directed at God? Some don't have the gift but pretends to maybe cuz they hold an important position in the church and wouldn't want to be taking as not filled with the spirit... How do you discern which is true and which is not.

Thanks Chidinma for the post... More of God's wisdom, knowledge and understanding will be added to you. Amen and me too ooo #smiles

    1. I think or I believe the speaking in tongues is a gift and being able to interpret it is another gift.

As to your question on, Satan manipulating our spirit man to speak in tongues or in a different language, I don't really know about that. Will try and find that out.

As to your question on, some people faking it, that's a sin against the Holy Spirit. And one mystery to it is that according to the bible is that, God the Father and God the Son forgives but God the Spirit or the Holy Spirit never forgives. So I leave that for the Holy Spirit to judge.

      Dear Paul,
Thank you for your kind words and Amen to your prayers, I do appreciate it.

May the good Lord forever bless you in every area of your life and may He forever increase you with wisdom and strength. Amen.

    1. Of course dear Anthonia. I never said you should pretend.
Like I said in the post, not speaking in tongues doesn't mean God will not answer. Of course He will answer and of course He will hear you.
