Pregnancy is a
great and wonderful gift from God. When pregnant, the only thing on your mind
is your due date (40 weeks) and sometimes you secretly pray your baby comes
once your pregnancy gets to 37 weeks.
You are
overly excited. Putting your baby/hospital bag together is a thing of joy.
Tiding your baby room, reading experiences from other moms etc. gets you over
the moon.
However,
if you are a first time mom, no one will tell you these things:
1)
Breastfeeding: At first you won't be able to fully express milk to your baby
the way you want and you may rely on baby milk for 3 to 4 days.
But while
your baby feeds on baby milk, still feed him/her breastmilk. The more your baby
sucks the more your breast milk flows.
2) Sleep:
When doctors and nurses advise you to get enough sleep while pregnant they
weren't joking. Aside from the fact that your baby and your body needing it,
you will HARDLY get a 2 hours good sleep once your baby is born.
So get
enough rest while you can.
3)
Farting: When you are pregnant, you pass out gas as a result of hormonal
changes but it can't be compared to the amount of gas you will be passing out
after giving birth.
The main
causes of excessive farting after giving birth are:
a) Your
milk intake
b) Your
Beans intake
You can
try reducing the intake of these two or better still, try talking with your
doctor about it.
c)
Soda/sugar intake...drink hot water instead
P.S:
Sugar or sugary things are not good for a breastfeeding mom because it will
affect your baby.
4) Baby
stomach upset: Your baby will have stomach upset from time to time. This is as
a result of his/her intestine trying to adjust to food. It however gets better
with time.
5)
Mosquitoes: Try as much as possible to protect yourself from mosquitoes.
Mosquitoes are not friends with pregnant women and also so that it will avoid
the chances of your baby having jaundice when he/she is born.
6) Baby
shopping: I know that you are super excited to shop for your baby and wear your
baby fancy clothes and match beautiful outfits on him/her but the truth is that
your baby might not be needing all that till he is a few months old.
Shopping
for overalls will be of great use because your baby will be wearing mainly
overalls when he/she is both indoors and outdoors.
7) Baby
weight: Many may want to discourage you that it takes forever for a new mom to
lose her baby weight. Well it doesn't .I shared how I lost my baby weight 3
weeks after delivery here...I hope it helps you too.
8)
Routine: Your routine will most definitely change. If before and during
pregnancy you had for example 10 hours a day to yourself in terms of house
chores, hair and makeup, shopping, cooking etc, after pregnancy, if you get 2
hours uninterrupted time for yourself, thank God. Lol
In
everything you do, please do not let anything get you worked up. Just enjoy
every moment and take one day at a time. If you cant get something done today,
you surely will tomorrow. Be thankful and live in the moment because you have
before you a priceless gift from God.
I hope
the above information inspires you in one way or the other. If you have
anything to add to the list above, please don't hesitate to share it/them with
