A Break Down Of What Psalm 23 Really Means

#Life

Psalm 23 is a Bible chapter everyone or most people know and could even recite its verses in their. But sometimes, we say these verses without really knowing what they mean. Through the help, guidance and inspiration from the Holy Spirit (more on that here >>> ) we are going to break down what Psalm 23 really means so that when you read it next time you will see things from a clearer and deeper light.

So get a cup of coffee, green tea or water let's break down the 6 verses of Psalm 23. I hope you get inspired. ENJOY!

1) The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want:

Dictionary.com defines a shepherd as a person who protects, guides or watches over a person or a group of people.
A shepherd is also someone who herds (provides), tends (takes care) and guards (shields, defends or bodyguards) a sheep.

So, God is all the above for His children. He is their pillar, their rock, their provider, their ''maga'', their strong tower, their hiding place and their life.

2) He makes me to lie down in green pastures, He leads me besides the still water :

God makes His children lie down in green pastures. Green pastures means a land flowing with milk and honey, a land or a place filled with excessive goodies, riches and gold.
Green pastures is a place filled with grass, which is what enriches and beautifies a sheep.
God makes His children lie down in riches.

It went further to say, He leads me beside the still waters. Plus Him giving them riches and gold, He sustains them by giving them water.
It said, beside the still waters. He leads them to a place where there is peace. The greatest wealth any man can ever posses in life, is peace of mind.

3) He restores my soul, He leads me in the path of righteousness for His name's sake:

Dictionary.com says that restores means ''to bring back to existence, use or the like, re-establish''.
God brings you back to existence. God brings you back to His likeness. God brings you back to a normal state of mind, to a state of health and soundness.

He leads me in the path of righteousness for His name sake- He leads you in the path of His holiness, in the path of being just right for His name sake (that means for everything God entails).

4) Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me: your rod and your staff they comfort me:

God never said it will be easy. There are times when you will be so scared of certain things or of everything but don't worry, God is your shepherd. He is ever there to protect, guide and guard
you to ensure nothing evil befalls you.

David before He became King was a shepherd. He killed a lion and a bear to ensure the safety of his sheep (1 Samuel 17:36). His sheep were his priority and he will give his life to ensure that they are safe and alright. So if David could do this for his sheep, how much more God to His children.

The Bible says ''your rod and your staff, they comfort me''

A rod and staff is made of iron and wood, that is, what God uses to comfort us. He allows our trials to make us stronger than we ever thought we will be. Though these trials are unbearable or we feel there is no way out, He comforts us with the fact that ''this/these trials will soon end''.

5) You prepares a table before me, in the presence of my enemies: You anoint me with oil, my cup runs over:

A table is seen in a business place, in a place of study, in the kitchen, in a market place...in everywhere really.
Meaning, God establishes you in the presence of your enemies. He then anoints your head with oil for favour, blessings, upliftment and protection. After that, He then makes your cup of favour, blessings, uplifting and protection to overflow beyond your widest expectation or imagination.

6) Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever:

According to dictionary.com goodness means ''the state or quality of being good. The state of moral excellence, virtue, kindly feeling, kindness and generosity.

Mercy means ''compassionate or kindly forbearance shown towards an offender, an enemy or other person in one's power, compassion, pity or benevolence''.

So, after knowing the meaning of goodness and mercy, God is now saying that they will follow you, all the days (seconds, minutes and hours) of your life and you will forever dwell, live, stay and enjoy in the house of the Lord (presence of the Lord) which is filled with grace, goodness and mercy forever.

AMEN
